House Crayne

Casa Crayne

House Crayne is a minor house of the Vale of Arryn, long bound in service to House Arryn. Its name is tied to two tense episodes that marked the family: the fall from grace of one of its own within the Targaryen Kingsguard, and a dispute over the succession of the Vale in which the house openly took a side.

Ser Symond Crayne wore the white of the Kingsguard under Maegor I Targaryen, the second king of the dynasty, a post of the highest trust reserved for swords sworn to the king's own service.

That favor did not outlast the change of reign. When Jaehaerys I took the throne after Maegor, Symond fell from grace and was sentenced to trade his white cloak for a black one, forced to swear the vows of the Night's Watch.

Chapter 2

The Vale succession

In this chapterJeyne Arryn

Years later, the death of Lady Jeyne Arryn left the lordship of the Vale without an undisputed heir and sparked a war of succession among claimants from within the ruling house itself. House Crayne did not stay out of it.

The house backed Ser Joffrey Arryn as the rightful successor, throwing its sword behind one side of a dispute that turned the Vale's nobility against itself.
