Where the show and the books disagree

The atlas keeps both canons apart and never merges them. Comparing the two catalogues field by field yields 89 contradictions between what the «A Song of Ice and Fire» novels tell and what HBO's shows put on screen: years that do not match, characters who die on screen and are alive on the page, and battles that end differently.

This page computes itself from the catalogue. Nothing here is a hand-written list: every row below comes from the same datum that the entity’s own entry serves, so the two cannot say different things.

Events the two sources date differently

37 events carry two dates. The show compresses the Dance of the Dragons —three years of war in the books happen in one on screen— and moves some of the Conquest more than three centuries. The atlas publishes both and says which is which.

People whose fate changes with the source

49 people die in the show and are not dead in the published books, or the other way round. This is the contradiction that matters most when answering a direct question: «when does X die?» has two true answers, and picking one is being wrong half the time.
