House Darke
Casa Darke
House Darke is a minor lineage of the Crownlands, holding a place in the realm's memory as small as it is persistent. They are said to be distant kin of House Darklyn of Duskendale.
Barely a handful of references to them survive, scattered between a war that split the Targaryens in two and a chance encounter many years later on the streets of Duskendale.
Chapter 1
The black side in the Dance
Books only
When the realm split between the supporters of Rhaenyra Targaryen and those of her half-brother Aegon, the Darkes did not hesitate: they threw in with the Blacks. Theirs was not a powerful house, nor one with known lands of its own, but their loyalty was recorded all the same.
Ser Harrold Darke paid for that loyalty with his life, killed at Dragonstone while defending Rhaenyra herself. The family did not vanish with him, though, and is recorded surviving the Defiance of Duskendale.
Chapter 2
The maid of Duskendale
Books only
The last known trace of the Darkes appears much later, in Duskendale. During a stop there, Brienne of Tarth is attended by a servant who claims to have been born a Darke.
Nothing more is said of her, not her full name nor whether the claim was true. It is, even so, the last time the house is mentioned at all.
