House Vikary

Casa Vikary

House Vikary is a cavalry house of the Westerlands, sworn to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock. Its coat of arms mirrors, in reverse, the emblem of the extinguished House Reyne, fueling theories of an uncomfortable kinship between the two lines.

The house enters the story chiefly through Ser Lymond Vikary, who leads his men into the War of the Five Kings under the banner of Casterly Rock.

Chapter 1

A coat of arms that mirrors the Reynes

Books only

According to semi-canonical sources, the Vikary arms combine a red boar's head on a white field with a silver forked-tailed lion rampant on a red field, crossed by a gold bend.

The two central quarters reverse the lion of the Reynes of Castamere, and that echo has led to speculation that the founder of House Vikary may have been a bastard of the Reynes, or descended from them by another line. No more than the image itself supports this; no source confirms it with names or dates.

Chapter 2

The fall at Oxcross

Books only

As vassals of Casterly Rock, the Vikarys answer the Lannister call when the War of the Five Kings breaks out. At the head of his men rides Ser Lymond Vikary, who leads them into the battle of Oxcross.

In the fighting, Ser Lymond drops out of the account: he is presumed dead, and for a time that is how the house remembers him.

Chapter 3

The prisoner of Deep Den

Books only

The account of his death was not the last word. It later comes out that Ser Lymond survived the battle of Oxcross.

He had not fallen on the field but had been taken captive, and he is held prisoner at Deep Den.
