Brandon's Gift

el Agasajo de Brandon

Brandon's Gift is the strip of land running south from the Wall that was handed to the Night's Watch so the order could support itself.

Tradition credits the grant to the legendary Brandon the Builder, though not even the maesters agree on which King Brandon it actually was.

Chapter 1

The Builder's grant

Books only

The most repeated version credits Brandon the Builder with granting the Night's Watch the land running from the Wall to twenty-five leagues south, so the order could sustain itself. That is where the name Brandon's Gift comes from.

Not every maester agrees. Some argue the giver wasn't the Builder at all but another King in the North who also happened to be named Brandon, and the question has never been settled.

The ground itself is nothing to boast about: compared to the lands further south, the soil of Brandon's Gift is narrow and stony, ungenerous to anyone trying to work it.
