Cape Kraken
el cabo Kraken
Cape Kraken is a headland on the western coast of the North, southwest of Blazewater Bay.
For generations it has been contested ground between the North and the Iron Islands, and control of it has changed hands more than once.
Chapter 1
The edge of the ancient forest
Books only
In the Age of Dawn, long before Northmen and Ironborn fought over this coast, the cape marked the western edge of a forest that once covered much of central Westeros. The Children of the Forest lived there, in a time when the land looked very different from today.
Chapter 2
The struggle between the North and the Iron Islands
Books only
Control of this land has been a constant tug-of-war between Northmen and Ironborn. King Theon Stark once drove the islanders out of the cape, but King Loron Greyjoy later won it back for the Iron Islands. Generations afterward, the sons and grandsons of King Rodrik Stark fought to reclaim it, though it isn't recorded whether they succeeded.
That back-and-forth has left its mark even in the blood of those who live there: some maesters believe the people of Cape Kraken descend more from the islands than from the North itself.
What we are not sure about
PositionWe worked it out
The position was inferred from the label on the base map rather than from a symbol of its own: it marks the area, not the point.
