High Heart

High Heart is a hill in the Riverlands, by far the tallest rise in an otherwise flat stretch of land, which makes it one of the hardest spots in the region to approach unseen.
It was once sacred to the Children of the Forest, and it is still wrapped in tales about the voices heard there at night; it is also where Arya Stark and the Brotherhood Without Banners come looking for word of Beric Dondarrion's whereabouts.
Chapter 1
The tallest hill

High Heart rises above the Riverlands as the tallest point in an otherwise flat stretch of country. That height is what makes it nearly impossible to approach without being seen from a long way off.
At the top stands a ring of thirty stumps around a single weirwood, all that remains of a forest that is gone now. The Children of the Forest held the place sacred, and that old standing is why, centuries later, it is still spoken of as somewhere set apart.
Chapter 2
The children who haunt it

Lords and smallfolk from the surrounding country try to stay away from the hill. Tradition holds that anyone who does not is haunted by the children of the forest sacrificed there, killed by the Andal king Erreg.
That reputation is enough to keep people away from the area, and it is part of what makes High Heart such a safe refuge for anyone who does dare to climb it.
Chapter 3
The Ghost of High Heart

Arya Stark
Beric DondarrionDuring the events of A Storm of Swords, Arya Stark and the Brotherhood Without Banners spend a night at High Heart. They climb up looking for the woman known as the Ghost of High Heart, who might tell them where to find Lord Beric Dondarrion.
In that episode the hill serves the same purpose that made it famous centuries earlier: it is the place people climb to when they need to talk without anyone else finding out.
