High Road
el Camino Alto
The High Road, also called the Eastern Road, runs from the Inn at the Crossroads to the Bloody Gate, climbing through the Mountains of the Moon to the entrance of the Vale of Arryn.
It is a wild route, plagued by mountain clans and shadowcats, and the overland path anyone must take to reach the Eyrie.
Chapter 1
A road of stone and snow

The road begins at the Inn at the Crossroads, where it meets the River Road and the King's Road, and from there climbs eastward into the Mountains of the Moon.
It is no easy route: the slopes are rocky, the woods close in over the path, and in places the road is little more than a stone track. Snow closes it often, and travelers risk running into the mountain clans or the shadowcats that roam there.

The prisoner and the mountain

Catelyn StarkAfter taking Tyrion Lannister prisoner at the Inn at the Crossroads, Catelyn Tully leads her party along the High Road toward the Bloody Gate, hoping to reach the Eyrie from there.
Along the way the mountain clans fall upon them, and only the knights Catelyn brought from the riverlands manage to beat back the attack. Ser Rodrik Cassel is badly wounded, reaching the Bloody Gate only because he is tied to his saddle, and stays behind there to recover.
