Kneeling Man

The Inn of the Kneeling Man is a roadside inn on the banks of the Red Fork of the Trident, built near the spot where a King in the North laid down his crown before the Targaryens. Its sign, painted with a kneeling king, marks that moment for anyone passing by.
In time it also became a stopping point for travelers crossing the river in wartime.

The king who knelt

Near the ford of the Red Fork where King Torrhen Stark, son of Edric, surrendered to Aegon I Targaryen after the Field of Fire — once he had seen Aegon's dragon and the army at his back — this inn stands. Above the door hangs a sign painted with the scene: a king on his knees, handing over his crown.
The building has two long, low wings that reach toward the river: the ground floor built of grey stone, the upper floor of whitewashed wood, and a roof of slate. Beside it stand stables and a bower, and the ale it serves is said to be good.

A stopover in wartime

Arya StarkDuring the war the inn changed hands: Sharna and her family took it over after finding its previous owners dead. Brienne of Tarth, Ser Jaime Lannister, and Ser Cleos Frey stopped there on their way south.
At the same inn, Arya Stark — then a captive of the Brotherhood Without Banners — was reunited with Harwin and revealed who she truly was.
