The Nightrunners are a wildling tribe from the lands north of the Wall. What is known of their history amounts to a conflict with the Hornfoots, ended when Mance Rayder, the King-Beyond-the-Wall, brought both peoples together under his banner.

Mance Rayder's peace

Before there was a single wildling host, the Nightrunners fought the Hornfoots. That hostility ended when Mance Rayder negotiated peace between the two tribes, folding them into the cause that would carry him south against the Wall.
Chapter 2
The descent into the Haunted Forest

In A Storm of Swords, the Nightrunners appear among the wildlings descending from the mountains along the Milkwater, heading into the heart of the Haunted Forest.
