The Red Waste
el Desierto Rojo
The Red Waste is a vast desert region in southern Essos, a land of bare hills, dry riverbeds and reddish earth stretching between the Dothraki Sea and the city of Qarth. It was once fertile ground, until the founding of the Qaathi city-states left it drying out.
Old routes cross it, linking the Dothraki world to the free cities of the south, and within it lie the ruins of cities razed during the Century of Blood. It is the setting for one of the harshest stretches of Daenerys Targaryen's journey through Essos.
Chapter 1
Drogo's pyre
Books and show
Somewhere along this stretch of the Red Waste, Khal Drogo dies of the wounds he has been carrying, leaving his khalasar without a leader.
Daenerys raises a funeral pyre for him and binds to it Mirri Maz Duur, the maegi she holds responsible for his state, as a sacrifice. On the same pyre she places her three dragon eggs, turned to stone for centuries.
At dawn, three living dragons emerge from the flames.
Chapter 2
The march to Vaes Tolorro
Books only
Following the Red Comet, Daenerys leads what remains of her khalasar across the Red Waste. The march is punishing: forage is scarce, the water they find is stagnant and bitter, and many of her riders die of hunger and exhaustion along the way.
They finally come upon a ruined city, abandoned for generations, which Daenerys names Vaes Tolorro. There they camp behind its walls to recover from the journey while she sends riders out to scout the surrounding land.
Not long after, Jhogo returns with three envoys from Qarth: Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, and Quaithe.
The physical world
La madera es difícil de encontrar, y la que existe está carcomida y dura.
