Weeping Water

The Weeping Water is a river in the North that flows into the Shivering Sea, with the Dreadfort standing on its bank.
Its name is tied to a very old alliance between the Starks and the Boltons, sealed in a battle against Andal invaders, though the river also carries much darker chapters in the history of the house that lives beside it.
Ancient History
Battle against Argos Seven-Stars
Long before the Boltons were known for cruelty, they already stood as allies to the Kings of Winter. Theon Stark joined his house with the Dreadfort's to block Argos Sevenstars and the Andals advancing through the North, and the fight was settled in the waters of this river, which has carried his name in both houses' memory ever since.

Roose Bolton's Crime
Much later, while hunting along that same water, Lord Roose Bolton forced himself on a miller's wife. Out of that violence would come, in time, the boy who became known as Ramsay Snow.

War of the Five Kings
Theon's Escape
During the War of the Five Kings, Theon Greyjoy flees the Dreadfort with Kyra and reaches the Weeping Water, slipping over half-frozen stones. The escape, though, was no escape at all: Ramsay Bolton had staged it as a hunting game, with Theon and Kyra as the prey.
