Womb of the World

The Womb of the World is a lake in Essos, near Vaes Dothrak, held sacred by the Dothraki. Tradition holds that it has no bottom.
It takes its name from the legend that places there the origin of the first Dothraki rider, said to have emerged from its waters more than a thousand years ago.

A sacred lake

The Womb of the World is a great lake near Vaes Dothrak, in the eastern lands of Essos. The Dothraki hold it sacred.
Its waters are said to have no bottom. Reeds and cane grow all along its shore.
Chapter 2
The first man and the first horse

Dothraki legend tells that the first man emerged from the depths of the lake, riding the first horse, more than a thousand years ago.
That story is what gives the Womb of the World its sacred standing among the Dothraki.
