Domeric Bolton
Domeric Bolton was the heir to the Dreadfort, the only son of Roose Bolton and Bethany Ryswell. Trained as a page and later as a squire in the Vale of Arryn, he earned a reputation as a calm, courteous young man with a gift for arms.
When he came home to the Dreadfort, he learned he had a bastard half-brother, Ramsay Snow, and wanted to seek him out despite his father's opposition.
Chapter 1
An heir's apprenticeship
Books only
Domeric was the only son of Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort, and Bethany Ryswell. He served four years as a page to Barbrey Ryswell and then three as a squire to Lord Horton Redfort, in the Vale of Arryn.
He shared his days with Redfort's own sons and grew close enough to think of them as brothers. Redfort himself thought the boy had the makings of a tourney champion.
Roose Bolton remembered him as quiet and well-mannered, a boy who read history, played the harp, and rode as though born in the saddle.
Chapter 2
A bastard brother and a father's suspicion
297 ACBooks only
On his return to the Dreadfort, Domeric learned he had a bastard half-brother and wanted to seek him out against his father's wishes — he had always longed for a brother of his own.
He died soon after, two years before the War of the Five Kings began. Maester Uthor put it down to a disease of the bowels.
Roose suspected otherwise: that Ramsay had poisoned him to remain his father's only son. He confided as much to Theon Greyjoy, with a question that expected no answer: "if the man who kills his own blood is cursed, what is a father to do when one son murders another?"
