Kinvara
Kinvara leads the Red Temple of Volantis and is one of the most authoritative voices within the faith of the Lord of Light in Essos.
Unlike other red priestesses, she placed her faith not in anyone from Westeros but in Daenerys Targaryen, whom she believes is the one called to lead the fight against the coming darkness.
Chapter 1
The agreement in the Great Pyramid
Show only
Kinvara travels to Meereen to meet Tyrion Lannister and Varys inside the Great Pyramid. Tyrion greets her in High Valyrian, hoping to win her backing for presenting Daenerys to the people as a protector rather than a conqueror; Kinvara answers in the Common Tongue that she needs no convincing, since she is already certain Daenerys is the one called to lead the fight against the coming darkness. As proof she points to the freed slaves and to Daenerys's dragons, and offers to support her cause with the resources of her temple.
Before the agreement is settled, Varys recalls that Melisandre had once given that same role to Stannis Baratheon, who was defeated at the Battle of the Blackwater and later died at Winterfell, and asks why he should trust a faith that has already been wrong once. Kinvara replies that everything happens by the will of the Lord of Light, but that those who interpret his will can still be mistaken. She then asks whether he remembers the words that came from the fire when a mediocre sorcerer threw his own manhood into the flames, and whether he knows who was speaking on the other side; Varys is left without an answer.
Kinvara takes her leave, assuring Tyrion she will send her best priests and preachers to speak of Daenerys across Essos.
