The Blackwater Rush is one of the great rivers of the Crownlands, and King's Landing, capital of the Seven Kingdoms, stands where it meets the sea.
Deep and treacherous, its waters were also the setting for one of the decisive battles of the War of the Five Kings.
Geography
Course of the River
The Blackwater Rush rises near Stoney Sept and flows through the Crownlands until it empties into the bay that bears its name, opposite King's Landing. It runs deep and swift, with a treacherous current, and where it meets the sea the water turns rough and fast.

History
Summer of 211 AC
In the year 211 AC, during a particularly long and harsh summer, the Blackwater Rush nearly dried up, as did the Mander, another of Westeros's great rivers.

Battle of the Blackwater
In 299 AC, the river was the setting for one of the main battles of the War of the Five Kings: forces loyal to the Iron Throne and King Joffrey Baratheon clashed there with the troops of King Stannis Baratheon, who claimed the crown for himself.
