Martyn Reyne

Martyn accompanies King Aegon II Targaryen to the throne room when he comes to hear the pleas of the people. That same night he sits at the foot of the Iron Throne and talks with the king alongside Eddard Mares and Leon Estermont.

When word comes of Prince Jaehaerys's death, the three try to calm a furious Aegon, who in his rage smashes the model of King Viserys. Soon after, Martyn is named a sworn brother of the Kingsguard.

On his first day as a Kingsguard, Martyn laughs with Eddard on a stairway until he straightens up as Criston Cole walks past. Along with Leon, the two are present at the king's armor fittings and then leave him alone with Larys, at the king's own request.

Martyn asks Aegon whether they should go with him to the Dragonpit, but the king chooses to stay in the castle. That night he backs Eddard's idea of having his squire deflowered, and stops laughing with Leon when the king reminds them of their vows of chastity. The three then go out drinking and end up at a brothel, where they run into Prince Aemond and hear the king humiliate him.

Martyn also accompanies Aegon to his chambers and to the Small Council, and is one of the guards watching over him during his convalescence.

Eddard, Leon, Martyn, and Rickard Thorne escort Queens Alicent and Helaena when the crowd turns on them. A man grabs Alicent's arm; Martyn seizes him and tries to force him to let go, and it is Leon who ends up cutting off the man's arm. Panicking, Martyn draws his sword despite the Dowager Queen's order to sheathe it, and the three end up surrounded by the mob.

The riot costs Leon his life. Martyn and Eddard are stripped of their white cloaks and sent to the Wall, to serve in the Night's Watch.
