Leon Estermont

Ser Leon Estermont was a knight of House Estermont who briefly served in King Aegon II Targaryen's Kingsguard during the Dance of the Dragons.

He belonged to the small circle of knights who accompanied the king in his daily life, more inclined to indulge him than to restrain him.

When Aegon II entered the Throne Room, Leon followed him reciting his titles and calling him magnanimous, a word that earned him mockery that same night from Aegon, Eddard Mares and Martyn Reyne, who doubted he knew what it meant. Together with Eddard and Martyn he tried to calm the king when Aegon, enraged, smashed a model of the late King Viserys.

During the fitting of the king's armor, Leon joined in mocking Aegon and, at a signal from the king, left him alone with Larys before returning to approve, in the same mocking tone, Aegon's idea of staying at the castle. He laughed when the king reminded them of the Kingsguard's vows of chastity after a suggestion from Eddard, but stopped when he noticed Aegon wasn't laughing with him.

That night the group drank at an inn and then went to a brothel looking for a prostitute for Martyn's squire; finding her with Aemond gave Aegon another excuse for mockery. Alongside Eddard and Martyn, Leon kept accompanying the king to his chambers and to the Small Council, and was among those who watched over him during his convalescence.

The mob

In this chapterRickard Thorne

Eddard, Leon, Martyn and Rickard Thorne were escorting Queens Alicent and Helaena when a mob turned on them. Leon ordered a man to release Alicent and, when he refused, cut off his hand despite the queen's order not to.

Surrounded along with Eddard and Martyn, the mob closed in while ignoring Rickard's pleas. The three were left to their fate, and the crowd fell on them, killing Leon.
