House Belgrave
Casa Belgrave
House Belgrave is a noble Westerosi line whose home region has not survived in the record. What little is known of the name rests on two isolated stories, one of them judged in hindsight by another white cloak.
At least one of its members swore himself to the Kingsguard, and it was that very loyalty which put the house at the centre of both tales that keep its name alive.
Chapter 1
White before black

At least one Belgrave wore the white of the Kingsguard: Ser Gyles Belgrave rose to that order, the highest a knight of Westeros can reach.
When the Hour of the Wolf came, the men of that guard were given a single choice, and Ser Gyles was one of only two who chose death rather than trade his white cloak for the black wool of the Night's Watch.

The proud lord and the beggar's feet

In another episode, King Baelor I Targaryen came across a Lord Belgrave the record calls arrogant, and made him perform a public penance: cleaning the sores on a beggar's feet with his own hands.

Jaime LannisterGenerations later, Ser Jaime Lannister looks back over the history of the Kingsguard and lingers on Ser Gyles's case: to him, the man remains a traitor to the white cloaks rather than one of his own who died for his vow.
