House Shell was a First Men royal house, one of twelve that settled along the Greenblood river and the eastern coast of Dorne and claimed the title of High King of Dorne. Its lands bordered those of House Wade, and its fate became bound to the Andal invasion of the region.

Like the other great Dornish houses of the First Men, House Shell rose out of the wars among those twelve kingdoms that followed the settlement along the Greenblood and the eastern coastal strip. Each of those houses styled itself with the title of High King of Dorne, and the Shells ruled theirs as a kingdom of its own, with House Wade as its neighbor.
That kingdom ended with Morgan Martell, an Andal adventurer who landed in Dorne with his kin and turned his arms against the Shell lands. He defeated them, seized their villages, and burned their castles, raising his own dominion over what had been the house's territory. Whether any Shell survived the conquest, or whether any descendant of the house remains today, is unknown.
