House Staunton of Rook's Rest
Casa Staunton de Reposo del Grajo
House Staunton of Rook's Rest is a noble family of the Crownlands, sworn to House Baratheon of King's Landing and seated at the castle of Rook's Rest.
It is a minor house, yet its name turns up at two of the great struggles for the Iron Throne: the twilight of Maegor I's reign and the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Chapter 1
Maegor's last support
Books only
Lord Staunton was one of the few lords who did not abandon King Maegor I Targaryen as his reign collapsed. On the day the king died, he summoned his remaining loyalists to King's Landing to plan a battle against Jaehaerys I, his nephew, newly raised as rival king.
The plan never came together: the great lords of the realm were absent from that room, and their absence alone was enough to drain the resolve of those who had come.
Chapter 2
The Dance of the Dragons
Books and show
When the realm split between two claimants to the throne, Lord Staunton chose a side: he placed Rook's Rest behind Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
