Rook's Rest

Rook's Rest is a castle in the Crownlands, seat of House Staunton, standing on the Narrow Sea coast across from Dragonstone.
Its name became bound forever to the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war that turned its fields and mist-shrouded hills into the setting for one of the battles that shaped the conflict's course.

In the year 59 AC the shivers took Lord Staunton and his wife, the lord and lady of Rook's Rest.
Their children tried to save themselves by shutting themselves away in their bedchambers, but the sickness reached them anyway, and none survived.

Rhaenyra TargaryenSeventy years later the castle suffered again when the Dance of the Dragons split the Targaryens into Blacks and Greens. Rook's Rest stayed loyal to Princess Rhaenyra, and for that Ser Criston Cole brought a Green army to its gates, burning the fields, killing the livestock and the people around it, and leaving Lord Staunton besieged within his own walls.
With no other way out, Lord Staunton sent a raven to Dragonstone begging Rhaenyra for help. Nine days passed before an answer came: Princess Rhaenys, riding her dragon Meleys, reached the besieged castle and rode straight into the trap the besiegers had laid for her, setting off the battle of Rook's Rest.
When the battle ended, Ser Criston Cole and Prince Aemond Targaryen had Lord Staunton executed.
Chapter 3
The Reclaiming of Rook's Rest

A year later, Lord Walys Mooton led the reclaiming of Rook's Rest. He won the castle back for the Blacks, but died trying to kill the dragon Sunfyre.
