Cannibal Bay is a legendary place in the Shivering Sea, spoken of by sailors who claim to have sailed near its waters. The bay's fame rests on the tales told about it, not on any reliable record of an expedition there.

Ships the ice swallows

Sailors' tales speak of ships that enter the bay and are trapped once the sea freezes behind them, with no way out. The same legend holds that a thousand vessels lie stranded there, some still inhabited by the descendants of their original crews.
Those descendants, the story goes, survive by feeding on the flesh of sailors trapped after them, which gives the bay its name.
Maester Margate has offered a different explanation: the tales of the bay may be distorted accounts of encounters with ice dragons.
