Ghoyan Drohe

Ghoyan Drohe is a ruined Rhoynar city on the Little Rhoyne, once known for its canals and waterfalls, destroyed by Valyrian dragons long before the current age.

Its remains still mark the road between Pentos and Norvos, and travelers crossing that stretch of Essos pass through what is left of it.

Chapter 1

A small city, but a beautiful one

Books only

Ghoyan Drohe stands on the Little Rhoyne, in the Velvet Hills, between the Flatlands and Pentos to the west; a Valyrian road linked it to that city and, in the other direction, to Norvos. It was never a large Rhoynar town, but its people filled it with canals and fountains, and it was known for its woods and its waterfalls.

Chapter 2

The flames of the war with Valyria

Books only

That prosperity ended when the dragons of the Valyrian Freehold fell on the city during one of the wars between the Rhoynar and Valyria, leaving nothing behind but ash and ruin.

Chapter 3

What remains, a thousand years later

Books only

A thousand years after that fire, the old canals are still there, choked now with reeds and mud, and swarms of flies breed over the stagnant water of its pools. The temples and palaces of that earlier city are sunken stones half-buried in the ground, and twisted old willows line the riverbanks.

Even so, the ruins are not entirely empty: a few families still tend small gardens among the weeds.

Chapter 4

On the road to Vaes Dothrak

Books only

In this chapterKhal Drogo

Centuries later, Khal Drogo's khalasar rides through these ruins on its way to Vaes Dothrak.

Chapter 5

Down the Rhoyne

Books only

In this chapterTyrion Lannister

Later still, Tyrion Lannister also crosses these ruins, on his way to the boat that is to carry him down the Rhoyne.
