Vaes Diaf (Hazdahn No)

Vaes Diaf is a scatter of ruins in the middle of the Dothraki Sea, between the Kingdom of Sarnor and Slaver's Bay. Before it ended up that way it was called Hazdahn Mo, a Ghiscari city built around a slave market.

Its history crosses two violent currents out of eastern Essos: the slave trade moving up from the south, and the Dothraki wars that tore through the grass sea during the Century of Blood.

Chapter 1

Hazdahn Mo, city of the market

Books only

Hazdahn Mo stood on a hill in the middle of the Dothraki Sea, south of the Kingdom of Sarnor and north of Slaver's Bay. It was a Ghiscari city, and a slave market kept it going.

When Khal Moro took Sathar, he marched the captured women and children there to be sold. Three-quarters of them died along the way before they arrived.

Chapter 2

The Century of Blood and the new name

Books only

During the Century of Blood, the Dothraki destroyed Hazdahn Mo. Nothing was left of the Ghiscari city's government or its market, only stone.

In time it came to be known by a Dothraki name, Vaes Diaf: vaes means city and diaf means skull, so it comes out to something like city of skulls.

The physical world

El nombre de la ciudad es de origen Dothraki. Vaes significa ciudad y Diaf significa calavera, por lo que se podría traducir como "ciudad de las calaveras".
