Vaes Gorqoyi (Mardosh)
Vaes Gorqoyi is the name now given to the ruins of Mardosh, an old city-state of Essos that once belonged to the kingdom of Sarnor. The current name, of Dothraki origin, recalls not what the city was but how it ended.
Standing at the northern edge of the continent, beside the river that empties into the Bay of Fangs, it marked the border between the lands of Sarnor and the Dothraki plains.
Chapter 1
Mardosh the Unconquerable

Before it became ruins, the city was named Mardosh the Unconquerable and stood as one of the city-states of the kingdom of Sarnor. It lay north of the Dothraki Sea, beyond the Sarnori lands themselves, with the ruins of Vaes Athjikhari further south.
A river ran past its walls down to the Bay of Fangs, the waterway that defined this far edge of the continent.
Chapter 2
The Century of Blood

During the Century of Blood, unconquerable Mardosh stopped being so: a succession of khalasars kept it under siege for six straight years. Inside the walls, hunger worked through everything that could be eaten: first the dogs and horses, then the rats and other vermin, and at the end the dead themselves.
When there was nothing left to hold out with, the warriors still standing killed their own wives and children rather than see them taken as slaves, then charged out against the horselords. That desperate charge is where the ruins get the name they carry today: Vaes Gorqoyi, the City of the Bloody Cargo.
