Vaes Tolorro (City of Bones)
Vaes Tolorro (ciudad de los huesos)
Vaes Tolorro is the name Daenerys Targaryen gave to a ruined city in the Red Waste, beyond the Dothraki sea. In the Dothraki tongue, the name means "city of bones," and it was within its cracked white walls that Daenerys's khalasar found shelter when it had no strength left to keep walking.
It was in this abandoned place that Daenerys's crossing of the desert changed course: there she received the first envoys from Qarth, the next step in her journey east.
Chapter 1
A city erased by the Dothraki
Books only
Before Daenerys gave it a name, the city had been a Ghiscari settlement, one of the city-states scattered across that part of Essos. The Dothraki razed it during the Century of Blood, and nothing of those people survived but the stone.
Chapter 2
White walls in the desert
Books only
Its walls, white and close to crumbling, enclose a maze of narrow alleys where the houses crowd against one another. The façades have a sandy texture, and not a single statue or monument still stands: the Dothraki who passed through carried off anything worth carrying.
South of the city there is nothing until the sea. To the southwest stand two more cities just as empty, ringed by the same barren land, and to the southeast, much farther on, lies Qarth.
Chapter 3
The khalasar's respite
Books only
When Daenerys's khalasar had spent weeks crossing the Red Waste, exhausted and diminished, it came upon the walls of Vaes Tolorro and sheltered inside them to recover. Daenerys sent riders out to scout the surrounding land while the rest of her people rested among the ruins.
It was there, in that empty city, that the first envoys from Qarth found Daenerys: Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, and Quaithe, who had set out looking for her.
The physical world
Al suroeste hay dos otras ciudades abandonadas y más tierra desierta, mientras al sureste se encuentra Qarth.
