Wendish Town
Wendish
Wendish is a small village in the Riverlands, built on the bank of the Red Fork of the Trident, with nothing but a wooden fort for defense.
It would be forgotten if not for the massacre it suffered at the start of the War of the Five Kings, an episode Lord Hoster Tully carried all the way to the Iron Throne demanding justice.
Chapter 1
The village with the wooden fort
Books only
Wendish sits on the bank of the Red Fork of the Trident, in the Riverlands, with no defense beyond a fort whose walls were built of wood, meant to shelter its people in times of danger.
That fort proved useless when Ser Gregor Clegane rode into the village at the start of the War of the Five Kings. The villagers ran for the fort, but Clegane's riders piled straw against its wooden walls and set it alight.
When the smoke forced the gates open, those who came out — nursing mothers among them — were shot down with arrows. No one in Wendish survived.
Chapter 2
The embassy that demanded justice
Books only
The massacre at Wendish was not an isolated case: other villages in the region met the same fate. Lord Hoster Tully answered by sending Ser Marq Piper, Ser Karyl Vance, and Ser Raymun Darry to King's Landing, charged with demanding justice before the Iron Throne for the villages sacked and burned.
