Whispering Sound

The Whispering Sound is the great bay on the southwestern coast of Westeros that Oldtown looks over, where the Honeywine river empties into it.
Its waters became a route of war when the Ironborn, after destroying the fleet the Redwyne House kept at the Arbor, sailed their longships across it to bring the threat to Oldtown's own shore.

With the small fleet the Redwyne House kept to protect the Arbor smashed apart, no one remained to dispute the passage to the Ironborn. Their longships entered the Whispering Sound unopposed.
From those waters, Oldtown itself lay within reach of their ships.
