Daario Naharis
Daario Naharis is a Tyroshi sellsword who fights his way to command of the Stormcrows in the bluntest way possible: by killing the company's other two captains.
That sudden loyalty makes him one of the people closest to Daenerys Targaryen as she tries to rule in the Bay of Dragons.
Chapter 1
A command bought with two deaths
Books and show
When the Stormcrows are hired to defend Yunkai against Daenerys's siege, Daario is one of the three captains who ride out to parley with her. The queen offers them gold and a share of the plunder if they switch sides, but Prendahl na Ghezn, another of the captains, turns her down.
The company is ruled by an assembly of free men, so breaking the contract needs a vote from everyone. While the debate is still going on in camp, Daario kills Prendahl and the third captain, Sallor, and settles the matter himself: he puts the Stormcrows in Daenerys's service. 'My sword is yours. My life is yours. My love is yours,' he tells her.
Chapter 2
The envoy who became a lover
Once in Meereen, Daenerys sends Daario as her envoy to Lhazar, tasked with reopening the overland trade routes between the Lhazareen and the city. When he returns, he and the queen become lovers.
Daario then suggests a way to secure peace with the slave masters: let Daenerys's marriage to Hizdahr zo Loraq go ahead and, at the wedding feast, kill every Meereenese noble of doubtful loyalty. The plan horrifies Daenerys, who refuses to even consider it.
Barristan Selmy, watching the affair grow with unease, doesn't trust him: 'Her love for Daario is a poison. A slow poison, like lobster venom, but just as deadly in the end.'
Chapter 3
Hostage in Yunkai
Daenerys's marriage to Hizdahr enrages Daario, and he stops seeing the queen. Along with Captain Groleo, the rider Jhogo, and others, he is handed over to Yunkai as a hostage to guarantee that Daenerys keeps her side of the peace deal.
When Daenerys vanishes on Drogon's back, the Yunkish refuse to release the hostages until the other dragons are killed, and they execute Groleo to show how far their anger goes. Daario remains a prisoner in Yunkai, and in his absence command of the Stormcrows passes to the Widower and Jokin.
Chapter 4
A dangerous charm
Daario is young and handsome, fair-skinned, blue-eyed, with a hooked nose and a gold tooth that shows when he smiles. He wears his hair long and curled, dyed blue like his beard, which he combs into three points, with his mustache painted gold; he dresses in loud colors and can't read the Common Tongue of Westeros.
Like most sellswords, he's fickle, greedy, and treacherous: he angers easily and acts without thinking. He carries a Dothraki arakh on his left hip and a Myrish stiletto on his right, both hilted with a pair of naked golden women. Under the charm and the colors, he's a war machine.
