Kovarro

Kovarro had secretly watched over Daenerys since her marriage to Khal Drogo, unseen by her. When Drogo is wounded and dies shortly after, the khalasar splinters among rival khals.

On her husband's funeral pyre, Daenerys hatches three dragon eggs, and before that wonder Kovarro kneels and swears her his loyalty. She names him one of her bloodriders, alongside Rakharo and Aggo.

With the khalasar starving deep in the Red Waste, Daenerys sends her three bloodriders to scout for help in three different directions, each on the last of the remaining horses. Kovarro is sent east.

His search leads him to the walled city of Qarth, ruled by a council called the Thirteen, who receive him and, on learning of the dragons, decide to invite Daenerys. They give him a fresh horse for the return.

Back with the khalasar, Kovarro reports his discovery: Qarth lies three days' ride east, by the sea. When Daenerys asks Ser Jorah what he knows of the place, he tells her the desert around it is called the Garden of Bones, for the remains of travellers denied entry to the city.

Kovarro leads the khalasar to the gates of Qarth, where the Thirteen refuse to admit them without proof of the dragons; they only relent once Daenerys threatens them, and the khalasar is placed under the protection of the merchant Xaro Xhoan Daxos.

At the feast Xaro throws in his gardens, Kovarro and Malakho linger by a golden peacock statue, weighing how to steal it: Malakho thinks it too heavy, but Kovarro reckons they could split the weight by prying out the jewels and cutting the soft gold.

Daenerys catches them discussing it and scolds her bloodrider for the disrespect shown to their host. Kovarro answers that he will wait until they leave before touching anything, and she warns him not to steal from the man who saved them from the desert.

Kovarro accompanies Daenerys to an audience with the Spice King, who refuses to fund her return to Westeros. Coming back to Xaro's house, they find it has been raided: Irri and several Dothraki warriors lie dead along with some of Xaro's guards, and the dragons are gone.

When Daenerys appears before the Thirteen to ask for help, Kovarro defends her while Pyat Pree confesses to the theft, proclaims Xaro king, and kills the rest of the council with his magic. Kovarro pulls her from the hall before Pree's doubles can catch them, and they invite her to reclaim her dragons in the House of the Undying.

Sheltering in a disused courtyard, Daenerys convinces Jorah to enter the House of the Undying with her despite suspecting a trap. Kovarro stands guard outside, waiting for their return.

When the two emerge and Daenerys finds Doreah in bed with Xaro, it is Kovarro who helps her lock them in an empty chamber. He then joins in ransacking Xaro's palace, carrying off gold and silver.
