Sharako Lohar

During the Dance of the Dragons, Sharako Lohar took command of a ninety-ship fleet from the Kingdom of the Three Daughters, sealing an alliance with King Aegon II Targaryen. His task was to break the blockade Lord Corlys Velaryon held over the Gullet.

He sailed his fleet toward the Gullet from the Stepstones, and there intercepted the Prancing Pinfeather, the ship carrying princes Aegon and Viserys along with the dragon Stormcloud. Aegon flew off to Dragonstone; his younger brother Viserys fell captive to a Tyroshi captain and was soon handed over to the admiral himself.

Sharako Lohar led his men at the Battle of the Gullet, one of the harshest naval clashes on record. The Three Daughters won the day, but at a brutal cost: sixty of their ships were destroyed, and only three Lysene vessels came away unscathed.

That imbalance was enough for the widows of Myr and Tyrosh to start accusing Lohar of throwing their fleets into slaughter while sparing his own. The accusation opened a rift among the three cities that would, in time, tear the Triarchy's alliance apart.

The moral defeat that followed the Gullet left Sharako Lohar discredited and surrounded by enemies. In need of gold and allies to keep himself afloat, he decided to sell Prince Viserys, still in his custody, to Magister Bambarro Bazanne, in exchange for the boy's weight in gold and a promise of political support.

Sharako Lohar was murdered as the year 131 AC drew to a close. At the time, it was read as a political strike, the spark that pushed the three cities toward the War of the Daughters.

Historians, however, agree the real motive was far smaller: a rival did away with him over the favors of a courtesan known as the Black Swan.
