The Gullet

The Gullet is the strait of sea separating the island of Dragonstone from Massey's Hook, the channel through which Blackwater Bay opens to the sea and through which anyone sailing to King's Landing from the south must pass.
Its name became tied to a naval battle of the Dance of the Dragons, and to a storm that on another occasion scattered a royal fleet on its way to the capital.
Battle of the Gullet
The strait was the site of the Battle of the Gullet, one of the naval clashes of the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war between the supporters of Rhaenyra Targaryen and those of her half-brother Aegon II.
Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra's son, died in the fighting, along with his dragon Vermax.
