House Mudd of Oldstones
Casa Mudd
House Mudd was one of the great dynasties of the First Men: for more than a thousand years it held the crown of King of the Rivers and the Hills from its stronghold at Oldstones, and it was the last house to rule the Trident before the Andals came.
Of that kingdom only the memory remains, a coat of arms with a crown studded with emeralds, and, centuries later, a surname a couple of sellswords chose to carry as their own.
Chapter 1
The kings of the Trident

For more than a thousand years, House Mudd ruled as Kings of the Rivers and the Hills, holding sway over the whole of the Trident. They were the last line of First Men to rule those lands before the Andals arrived, and their crown of gold studded with emeralds stood as the mark of that old kingship.
The dynasty ended with the death of Tristifer V, the last king of their line. There is another, shakier account of the house's end, one that speaks of wars against the Storm Kings and the ironmen; the two stories don't quite fit together, and which one is true is not clear.
Chapter 2
The borrowed name

Centuries after the fall of the kings of the Trident, the Mudd name turned up in an unlikely place: the Golden Company, the band of exiled sellswords. John Mudd the Younger and Lorimas Mudd swore loyalty to Prince Aegon Targaryen as the company made ready to cross into Westeros.
There's no way to know whether these two men truly descended from the old royal house or simply borrowed its name, the way sellswords often invent a past that suits them.
