Dagger Lake

Lying in western Essos, Dagger Lake forms at the point where the Rhoyne, flowing down from the northwest, takes in the waters of the Qhoyne, arriving from the northeast; from there the river continues south. The name comes from the lake's shape, said to resemble a dagger.

Its western shore borders the Golden Fields.

During the Century of Blood, the fleets of Norvos and Qohor met the fire galleys of Volantis on these waters and defeated them. The defeat cost Volantis the hold it had until then over the northern stretch of the Rhoyne.

Among the many islets scattered across the lake, pirates such as Urho the Filthy and Korra the Cruel hide out, using caves and hidden strongholds as refuge.

In the events of A Dance with Dragons, the khalasars of Khal Motho and Khal Zekko appear north of the lake, fleeing the threat of a third khal, Pono.

Down the same waters sails the Shy Maid as well, bound for Grief, carrying Tyrion Lannister along with Jon Connington, Young Griff and their company, on their way to Meereen to enter the service of Daenerys Targaryen. They travel only by night and in silence, and are lucky enough not to cross paths with any pirates.
