Greenblood
el Sangreverde
The Greenblood is one of Dorne's great rivers, formed by the joining of the Vaith and the Scourge, its thick green waters running slow toward the Summer Sea. Its banks were settled by some of the first people to reach Westeros, and later by the ships of the Rhoynar migration, who left behind a people of their own.
That people, the Orphans of the Greenblood, still live on barges upon its waters, and the river remains one of the arteries running through Dorne from end to end.
Chapter 1
The river's first settlers

When the First Men crossed into Westeros over Dorne's arm, not all of them pushed north in search of fertile land. Some settled on the banks of a river with thick green waters, which they named the Greenblood.
Along its banks grew nearly a dozen noble houses, among them Briar, Brook, Brownhill, Holt, Lake, Shell, and Wade, who formed a kingdom of their own ruled by a High King chosen from among them. Three of those houses died out in internal feuds, and the rest fell during the Andal invasion; the Shells and the Wades were the last to fall, defeated by House Martell.
Chapter 2
The Orphans of the Greenblood

During the Rhoynar migration, part of Nymeria's fleet sailed up the mouth of the Greenblood, and there Planky Town was founded. When Nymeria herself ordered the ships burned so her people could not turn back, many Rhoynar chose to remain by the river, faithful to the Mother Rhoyne.
With the burned wrecks of the fleet they built barges and settled along the river's length, giving rise to a people of their own: the Orphans of the Greenblood, who have lived upon the water ever since instead of on dry land.
Chapter 3
The Conquest of Dorne and the river's division

Centuries later, during the Conquest of Dorne, Oakenfist took Planky Town and with it control of the entire Greenblood, splitting Dornish territory in two.

The coronation that never came

Myrcella Baratheon
Areo HotahPrincess Arianne Martell planned to sail up the Greenblood with her party to Hellholt, to crown Myrcella Baratheon there as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. The plan unraveled as soon as they reached the river: Areo Hotah and his men were waiting for them on a barge.
Ser Arys Oakheart died in the clash, and Darkstar wounded Myrcella before fleeing. The rest of the party was captured and brought back to Sunspear.
