Myrcella Baratheon

Myrcella is born in King's Landing and grows up amid the luxury and tension of the royal court alongside her brothers Joffrey and Tommen. When the tournament for Joffrey's name day is held, the whole royal family attends as part of the spectacle.

Soon after she travels with her mother to Casterly Rock to visit her grandfather, Lord Tywin Lannister. It is a sheltered childhood, still far from the intrigues that will shape the rest of her life.

Jon Arryn's death forces the royal family to travel to Winterfell, and Myrcella makes the journey with her mother in the royal wheelhouse. At the welcoming feast the Starks hold in their honor, something stirs her interest in Robb Stark, heir to the household hosting them.

Back in King's Landing, she and Tommen pass by a grimy, disguised Arya Stark chasing cats across the rooftops without recognizing her; neither of them realizes they are looking at Lord Eddard Stark's younger daughter.

It is Eddard Stark himself who, investigating Jon Arryn's death, discovers that Myrcella is not truly King Robert's daughter but Jaime Lannister's, the queen's twin brother. While the king lies dying after a hunting accident, Lord Renly Baratheon suggests that Eddard take custody of Myrcella and Tommen and marry her to Robb Stark; Eddard refuses, and is arrested in the throne room shortly after.

Myrcella attends the name-day tournament of the now-crowned King Joffrey. It is then that her uncle Stannis Baratheon, laying claim to the Iron Throne, makes public an accusation naming her and her brothers as the fruit of incest between Cersei and Jaime.

With the realm split by the War of the Five Kings, Tyrion looks to bring Dorne over to the Lannister side and offers Myrcella as a bride for Trystane Martell, Prince Doran's youngest son. Dorne accepts, and the girl sails south escorted by a fleet and by Ser Arys Oakheart of the Kingsguard.

On arriving at Sunspear, Myrcella becomes friends with Arianne and Trystane, Doran Martell's children, and finds in Dorne a home unlike the one she left behind.

When King Joffrey dies poisoned at his own wedding, Prince Oberyn Martell reminds Tyrion that, under Dornish law, it should be her — the elder sibling — who takes the crown before young Tommen.

Myrcella takes to Dornish customs with an ease that surprises everyone, while her sworn shield Ser Arys Oakheart fares worse. She shares games of sitrang with Trystane, and Doran Martell plans to bring her soon to the Water Gardens.

Unknown to her, Arianne Martell is plotting to crown her Queen of the Seven Kingdoms in revenge for the deaths of Elia and Oberyn: Dornish law places the elder sister ahead of the younger brother, which makes Myrcella's claim to the throne, in theory, stronger than Tommen's.

Arianne takes her from Sunspear with a small party toward Piedrafresca, and there reveals the plan. Myrcella, taken aback, does not object. But the conspiracy has already been betrayed: Doran's guards are waiting, Ser Arys dies fighting Areo Hotah, and amid the chaos Ser Gerold Dayne tries to kill her to drag Dorne into war against the Lannisters. She survives, but the cut opens her cheek to the bone and takes her right ear.

Myrcella shows her wounds to Ser Balon Swann of the Kingsguard. She blames Ser Gerold Dayne for the attack and, following Arianne's lead, also pins Ser Arys Oakheart's death on him; she asks Balon to hunt the renegade knight down, and he agrees.

Doran Martell decides the time has come to send her back to King's Landing, this time escorted by Nymeria Arena. In the capital, Ser Kevan Lannister arranges the preparations for her return before the Small Council.

The books and the television series part ways here. In the novels, as far as the story has been told, Myrcella remains alive after setting out back toward King's Landing. The TV adaptation, however, ends her story differently: she dies in the year 302.
