Hayford is the castle that lends its name to its own house, built on a rise in the Crownlands west of the Kingsroad, with a stream running beside its walls.
It is not a place that decides wars on its own; in the chronicles it appears as a stop along the road, a castle others pass on their way to wherever the story is actually headed.
Location
The castle stands on a hill in the Crownlands, with the Kingsroad running to its east and a stream flowing alongside it. Near the path leading to its gates lies a village known as that of the Leaf Lady.

Jaime Lannister's Passage
Ser Jaime Lannister halted before Hayford's walls during a march through the region, with a party of knights and lords under his command. Someone in the group turned to the castle's castellan to ask what would be served for supper, a brief moment the chronicle leaves without further context about the troops passing through.
