Hidden Sea

The Hidden Sea is an inland sea of Essos, closed off north of the Shadow Lands by several mountain ranges that hem it in on all sides, among them the Mountains of the Morn. That enclosure among mountains is thought to be the source of its name.
Two cities sit on its shores: the City of Winged Men to the west and Carcosa to the east.
Chapter 1
A sea closed in by mountains

North of the Shadow Lands, the land folds into mountain ranges that wrap around an inland body of water: the Hidden Sea. The Mountains of the Morn close it off to the south, and that ring of peaks is said to be where the name comes from — a sea that the mountains hide from the rest of Essos.
Two very different cities sit on its coasts. The City of Winged Men rises on the western shore, and Carcosa occupies the eastern one, mountains and water lying between them.
