City of the Winged Men
Ciudad de los Hombres Alados
The City of the Winged Men is a place in Essos whose very existence is doubted: it is said to sit high in the mountains above the Shivering Sea, and those who speak of it claim its people have wings and fly like birds.
Its trace belongs more to legend than to any map, and that is precisely its place in the known world's atlas: one of those remote points that only rumours ever reach.
Chapter 1
A city that may not exist
Books only
It is placed at the far eastern edge of Essos, on the shores of the Shivering Sea, hemmed in by mountain ranges such as the Bones of the Dawn. Across those waters would lie Carcosa; to the north, the Cities of the Bloodless Men; to the south, the Shadow Lands. On any map, it keeps company with neighbours as uncertain as itself.
Of its founding there is only a single claim: that it was raised high in the mountains, above the sea. Nothing says who built it, or when, or why, and the account itself treats it as myth rather than established fact.
The only thing repeated from mouth to mouth is the nature of its people: they are said to be born with wings and to fly like birds. No source confirms it; like the city itself, it is a tale told without anyone having seen it up close.
The physical world
Al norte se encuentran las Ciudades de los Hombres Sin Sangre y al sur las Tierras Sombrías.

What we are not sure about
NameThe sources disagree
The reading of the label on the base map is not certain. What was read was “City of the Winged Men”.
Spanish nameWe worked it out
The Spanish name is the atlas’s own reviewed translation, not the one in the published Gigamesh edition, which does not fix it.
