Howling Mountain

Montaña Aullante

Howling Mountain is an island among the Basilisk Isles, a crag off the northern coast of Sothoryos, out in the Summer Sea.

Its place in Westerosi memory comes from an episode that wasn't its own doing: corsairs sailing out of it harried Nymeria's fleet while the Rhoynar searched for land to settle.

Chapter 1

Books only

Howling Mountain rises among the Basilisk Isles, off the northern coast of Sothoryos, washed by the waters of the Summer Sea.

Chapter 2

The corsairs and Nymeria's flight

Books only

During the voyage of the ten thousand ships, corsairs out of Howling Mountain fell upon part of the Rhoynar fleet and carried off captives as slaves.

They then offered to let the Rhoynar settle on the Isle of Toads in exchange for an annual tribute: thirty maidens and handsome boys delivered to each of their kings.

Nymeria refused the bargain and put her people back to sea, this time seeking refuge in Sothoryos.
