Kayakayanaya
Kayakayanaya is a city in Essos, set northeast of Vaes Dothrak beside the Steel Road, the route it is charged with guarding.
Its walls of black basalt, dark iron and yellow bone hold what remains of a far older nation, and its warrior maidens are, for anyone merely passing through Vaes Dothrak, one of the sights that define that corner of the world.
Chapter 1
What remains of the Hyrkoon Patrimony

The city endures as one of the last remnants of the Hyrkoon Patrimony, a nation barely remembered outside its walls. Along with that legacy it inherited a duty: guarding the Steel Road, the route linking it to Vaes Dothrak.
Its defenses speak of the same past. The wall combines black basalt, dark iron and yellow bone, and the city shares close ties, both cultural and geographic, with Bayasabhad.
Chapter 2
The maidens of the Eastern Market

Daenerys TargaryenAs Daenerys Targaryen walks through the Eastern Market of Vaes Dothrak, among the stalls and goods she watches the warrior maidens from Bayasabhad, Shamyriana and Kayakayanaya pass by. It is the only moment the city steps into the story — not through anything it does, but through who happens to be watching.

Iron and rubies

Kayakayanaya is known above all for its warrior maidens, who wear iron rings through their nipples and rubies set into their cheeks. Maester Naylin devoted pages to puzzling out where that custom came from in a text titled Iron and Rubies, though nothing here records what he concluded.
