Daenerys Targaryen daughter of Aegon IV

Daenerys was born in King's Landing in 172, the youngest child of Aegon IV and his sister-wife Naerys. She came into the world fifteen days after Aegor Rivers, her father's bastard son, and well after her brother Daeron, who by then was already married and had a son, Baelor, older than her.

A twin of hers was stillborn, and the birth nearly killed Naerys; the queen recovered all the same.

Daeron II, by then king, spent at least two years negotiating his sister's betrothal to Maron Martell, Prince of Dorne: the marriage was part of the price for bringing Dorne under the Iron Throne. They wed in 187 at King's Landing; afterward, Maron and Daeron paid their respects at the statue of Baelor I, the king who had opened the way to that peace.

The tournament held to mark the wedding is remembered for something else: it was there that Baelor Targaryen, after beating Daemon Blackfyre in the final tilt, won the nickname Breakspear.

It was also said that Daenerys and Daemon, the king's bastard half-brother, loved each other, and that losing her was what drove Daemon to rebel against Daeron II. The timeline doesn't fit that romance: eight years passed between the wedding and the uprising, during which Daemon had married Rohanne of Tyrosh and had at least nine children with her, while Daenerys had already given Maron several heirs.

Once the war was over, Maron built his wife a garden in Dorne of colored marble and pools, where their children grew up playing alongside the offspring of other nobles.

One scorching day, Daenerys let the children of servants and guards join them in the pools; the gesture became a custom still kept in Dorne today. A portrait of her still hangs there, along with the advice she left her son and heir: "This is your kingdom. Remember them, and keep them in mind in everything you do."
