Kayce
Kayce is a walled city on a peninsula of the Westerlands, south of Fair Isle, and the seat of House Kenning, sworn to the Lannisters. It grew out of land long held by the ironborn, and how it passed into mainland hands is remembered more for its strangeness than for any battle.
In the centuries after, it stayed a port of some weight on the western coast, visited by kings and fought over in wartime.
Chapter 1
A conquest without a siege

Kayce was founded in the Age of Heroes, on a peninsula south of Fair Isle, and for generations it lay among the lands the ironborn held outside the Iron Islands.
When Lannister troops arrived at its walls under Herrock Kenning, the city did not fall to siege but to a rumor: it's said a single horn call was enough for Kayce's prostitutes to unbar the gates. Three Ironborn kings later tried to win the town back, and Herrock himself killed two of them.
Chapter 2
A dragon king's visit

Jaehaerys I TargaryenIn 55 AC, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen reached Kayce on his progress through the Westerlands. By then the city was firmly held by its new mainland lords, and the royal visit stands as record of that.
Chapter 3
The Red Kraken's attack
Books only
During the Dance of the Dragons, a force under the Red Kraken seized Kayce by force. The invaders did not hold it long: once the war ended, the city returned to Lannister hands.
Johanna Lannister is remembered from the fighting that won it back — she put on armor and stood with the men, and her presence alone, it's said, was enough to hold the line.

The merchants and the debt

In time, Kayce's merchants took to borrowing money from House Lannister. It wasn't only need driving them: they saw Lord Tytos Lannister let debtors go unpunished, and took advantage of his loose hand.
