Mole's Town

Villa Topo

Mole's Town is the settlement closest to Castle Black, half a league south of the Wall along the Kingsroad. Little of it shows above ground — most of the town lies underground in warm tunnels that hide, among other things, a brothel well known to the men of the Night's Watch.

Chapter 1

The town underground

Books only

Mole's Town looks like little more than a cluster of huts by the Kingsroad, but appearances are misleading: three-quarters of it lies underground, in wide chambers linked by tunnels, warmer than the surface above. Down there is also the brothel, hidden behind nothing more than a hut and a red lamp hung by the door.

It's said that Night's Watch brothers visit the town looking for buried treasure.

Chapter 2

The empty town

Books only

In this chapterJon Snow

Shortly before the wildlings fell on Castle Black, Jon Snow sent word to Mole's Town so its people could flee. The attackers burned the settlement on their way to the castle, and once the assault from the south was contained, the townsfolk went back to what was left of their homes.

The relief didn't last. When Castle Black came under attack again, this time from the north, Jon sent a request for help to Mole's Town. Neither the messenger nor any answer ever came back. Jon then sent Mully, a brother of the Watch, to find out why — he returned with news that the town was deserted.

Chapter 3

The new neighbours

Books only

With the town left empty, a number of wildlings eventually settled there, led by Sigorn, the Magnar of Thenn.
