Red Lake

Red Lake is the seat of House Crane, built on the shore of a lake of the same name that marks the northwestern border between the Reach and the Westerlands.
Its history runs from legends of the Children of the Forest through wars between rival kingdoms to the trail of a dragon that outlived the Dance of the Dragons, making this quiet corner of the map a witness to several ages of Westeros.
Chapter 1
The lake that changed color

The lake was first known as Blue Lake. Legend says Brandon Bloody Blade killed so many Children of the Forest there that its waters, and its name, changed color.
House Crane later settled on that same shore, in the northwestern corner of the Reach, right where the region borders the Westerlands.
Chapter 2
Garth's daughters

Among the daughters tradition assigns to Garth Greenhand is Rose, tied to Red Lake, and her descendants still live in the region.
The land itself joined the Kingdom of the Reach under Garth the Great, not through conquest but through pacts of friendship and mutual defense between its lords.

The death of a King of the Rock

Lancel IV Lannister, King of the Rock, died at Red Lake while trying to push his forces into the Reach; it was Ser Wilbert Osgrey who killed him.
