Sar Mell
Sar Mell was one of the great cities of the Rhoynar, built on the western bank of the Rhoyne, facing the Valyrian colony of Volon Therys.
Its story is the story of two wars: one it won and rose from again, and one that erased it from the map along with the people who lived there.
Chapter 1
The First Turtle War
Books only
Sar Mell was once known as the pale city of flowers, standing on the western bank of the Rhoyne, north of Volantis and linked to it by a Valyrian road. On the opposite bank, the Valyrians founded Volon Therys, and the closeness between the two cities sparked the First Turtle War, the first of the Rhoynish Wars.
The city was sacked and put to the torch, but the war was won by the Rhoynar, who rebuilt Sar Mell from its own ashes.
Chapter 2
The End of the Rhoynar
Books only
Centuries later came the Second Spice War. After the capture of Prince Garin, Sar Mell was sacked a second time, far more brutally than the first: its people were enslaved and the Rhoynar driven from what had been their home.
This time the city was never rebuilt. Sar Mell remained a ruin, and remains one still.
