Starfall

Starfall rises on an island in the Torentine river, at the western edge of Dorne, and has been the seat of House Dayne since long before the Rhoynar ever reached its shores. It takes its name from the stone that gave it birth: a fragment fallen from the sky, out of which a knight forged Dawn, the greatsword tied ever since to the title Sword of the Morning.
Set apart from the rest of Dorne and turned toward the Red Mountains, the castle saw kings of its own, the fire of a Targaryen dragon, and visitors from other great houses of the realm pass through it. Through all of that, it remained the house of the Daynes.
Chapter 1
The stone that fell from the sky
Books only
Before the castle stood, a meteorite struck the ground there, and Starfall took its name from the fall. A Dornish knight pulled the strange, white-gleaming metal from the rock and forged it into a greatsword he called Dawn.
The Daynes who settled around that stone were "stony Dornishmen," people of the Red Mountains descended from the First Men, little touched by the culture the Rhoynar would later bring to Dorne.
Chapter 2
Kings of the Torentine

For generations the Daynes ruled the Torentine as kings in their own right, west of the Red Mountains, until Nymeria and her people arrived and redrew the map of Dorne. The last of those kings, Vorian Dayne, known as the Sword of the Dusk, lost the war against the newcomers and ended up in black on the Wall.
Defeated as kings, the Daynes did not vanish: they threw their weight behind Nymeria against King Yorick V Yronwood instead. Ser Davos Dayne, who then held the title Sword of the Morning, became the Rhoynar queen's third husband. Yet when Nymeria died, it was not her son by Davos who took her place, but Mors Martell, the eldest daughter of her first husband.
Chapter 3
In the shadow of dragons

When Dorne rose against the Targaryens in the First Dornish War, Ser Joffrey Dayne led an army to the walls of Oldtown, burning fields and villages along the way. The answer came from the sky: Queen Visenya Targaryen descended on Starfall astride Vhagar and left fire and blood behind her.
Years later, under the reign of Maegor I, Grand Maester Benifer suggested the king take Lady Clarisse Dayne, then Lady of Starfall, as his wife, hoping to pull her lands and house out from under Dorne's influence. The marriage never took place.

Visitors to the castle

Oberyn Martell
Eddard Stark
Arthur DaynePrince Oberyn Martell and Princess Elia Martell passed through Starfall on their way to Casterly Rock, where their mother hoped to see them betrothed to the Lannister twins.
After the War of the Usurper ended, Eddard Stark traveled to Starfall to return what belonged to House Dayne: Ser Arthur Dayne's sword, Dawn, which he delivered to Lady Ashara Dayne, sister of the fallen Sword of the Morning.
Chapter 5
The Palestone Sword
Books only
Among its towers, Starfall holds one known as the Palestone Sword.
It was from there that Lady Ashara Dayne threw herself into the sea, some time after Eddard Stark had brought her brother's sword back to the castle.
