House Dayne of High Hermitage
Casa Dayne de Ermita Alta
House Dayne of High Hermitage is a cadet branch of House Dayne of Starfall, seated at High Hermitage and sworn to it within Dorne. Its knights share the senior branch's First Men blood, but generations of intermarriage with the Andals have left them with a look that sets them apart at a glance from other Dornishmen.
One of its knights, Ser Gerold Dayne, is drawn into a palace conspiracy that tests the house's loyalty to Dorne's rulers.
Chapter 1
First Men blood, Andal features
Books only
Like House Dayne of Starfall, whom they serve, the Daynes of High Hermitage count themselves among the First Men. But their history in Dorne crossed with centuries of marriages to the Andals, and from that comes a trait that sets them apart at a glance from other Dornishmen: hair somewhere between gold and silver, pale eyes.
They are knights of the house, not lords in their own right; their swords and their loyalty answer to Starfall.
Chapter 2
The plot to crown Myrcella
Books only
In Dorne, Princess Arianne Martell schemes to crown Myrcella Baratheon queen of the Seven Kingdoms, and among the names she draws into her conspiracy is Ser Gerold Dayne, knight of High Hermitage and known as Darkstar. His part in it puts the house, behind closed doors, on the side of a plot against the throne in King's Landing.
The plan falls apart when Areo Hotah, captain of the guard at Sunspear, catches up with them. Darkstar draws his sword on Myrcella herself, the very princess the conspiracy meant to crown, and manages to escape the encounter.
