Walano

Walano is one of the three largest islands of the Summer Isles, the northernmost in the chain and the most populated of them all. Its coastline holds the main cities of the island kingdom, and its interior is home to an ape found nowhere else in the known world.

It was also where the Summer Isles had their first recorded contact with outsiders, an encounter that shaped how the island was spoken of for generations afterward.

Chapter 1

The most populated island

Books only

Walano rises at the north of the archipelago, one of the three largest of the Summer Isles and the one that holds the greatest population of the group. In sheer size it outmeasures all of the Stepstones combined.

Its forests are home to the Night Stalkers, an ape found nowhere else in the known world.

Three notable cities sit along its shores: Last Lament to the north, the kingdom's capital, Lotus Port, at the midpoint, and Tall Trees further south. Stone Head and Women Island lie off its northern coast, while Koj and Bird Island appear further south, already within the Smiling Sea.

Chapter 2

Demon Island

Books only

Walano was the setting of the first recorded meeting between the Summer Isles and people from beyond them: somewhere between five and eight thousand years ago, a storm blew a Ghiscari merchant ship off course and onto its shores.

The sailors, seeing the islanders, fled in the belief they had found demons, unsettled by the color of their skin, and out of that fear came the name by which the island was long known: Demon Island.

Archmaester Gallard set down in his work Sons of the Summer an ordering of the island's earliest princes, though Archmaester Mollos has questioned how much trust that account deserves.

The physical world

Es la isla más poblada de todo el archipiélago. En Walano habita una especie única de simios, los Acosadores Nocturnos.
